Our Bed Bases

We offer all our cast iron, brass beds and Victorian nickel bedsteads with a choice of three bed bases. Sprung beech slats come as standard on all our beds. A slatted bed base provides flexible support, allowing a little give to any mattress and will be sufficient in most situations.

All our bed bases are handmade at our workshop in Devon, and each is designed to fit into our authentic, Victorian bed frames like a glove...giving you the ultimate comfort and support whilst you sleep.

Sprung Beech slats

SUPPORT: Medium-Soft

PROFILE: Thin

Sprung beech slats come as standard on our beds. Prices below are only for the sprung beech slats insert. The sprung beech slats bed base provides good ventilation, flexible support and additional comfort to your mattress, as well as a thin profile, allowing the mattress to sink into the frame. Slatted bed base will provide traditional bounce to any mattress and will be sufficient in most situations.

4” Salcombe base

SUPPORT: Firm

PROFILE: Raised by 3"

For those looking for a firmer feel you can choose our 4” Salcombe bases, made from FSC timber and glued with organic glue then screwed to give a quality timber frame. It is then topped with a recycled hardboard card, organic coir and organic Lambswool. It comes upholstered in our ivory herringbone 100% cotton cover as standard or you can choose one of our Romo Linara fabric colours (additional fee may apply) or even supply your own fabric and we will be happy to upholster just what you want. Raised profile of this bed base will elevate your mattress by approximately 3".
